Business moves are rarely simple affairs.  Unlike residential moves you have to balance keeping operations up and running while simultaneously breaking everything down.  Once you start adding specialized machinery and potentially hazardous materials into the mix, things only get more complicated.

Thousands of businesses across the country in the science and medical industries require the expertise of highly specialized lab movers.  It’s a necessity that comes with the territory of moving all the tools of the trade to a new location.

Here’s a look at 4 reasons why a regular moving company won’t cut it if you have to transport sensitive specimens and lab equipment:

Many Materials Can’t Go in a Regular Moving Truck

Few people realize how limited standard moving companies are as far as what can be loaded into their trucks.  Flammable materials, pressurized tanks, chemicals, toxins and liquids are just a handful of off limit items.  Many of the items commonly found in laboratories aren’t allowed on a regular moving truck.  This includes animals, which can never be transported in standard moving vehicles.

There’s No Climate Control

Even if you could put your lab samples in a regular moving truck they probably wouldn’t survive the trip.  Traditional moving companies don’t have climate-controlled trucks.  They are wide-open containers without any air circulation.  Not the optimal conditions for biological materials.

Specialized lab movers have vehicles and equipment that are designed to keep samples at an exact temperature.  They’ll also have backup equipment and power supplies to circumvent issues during transport.

Knowing that the moving trucks are set up to keep specimens and samples safe will dramatically reduce the stress of a business move.

Security is a Serious Issue

Most moving companies hire temporary movers that are minimally screened at best.  Even when a company has full-time staff chances are good that they haven’t been given a thorough background check.

Anytime dangerous materials are being handled highly skilled professionals that have undergone extensive background checks are a must.  This ensures that the move is safe and that no materials go missing.  Professional biological transport specialists understand the importance of the materials that they are moving and take the utmost care every step of the way.

Regular Movers Don’t Know the Guidelines for Biological Transport

There are state and federal biological transport guidelines that must be stringently followed anytime biological or hazardous materials are moved.  Trained lab movers know how different types of materials have to be handled in order to avoid fines and legal hang ups.  They’ll be familiar with all of the current Department of Transportation laws so that none of them are broken.  They also know when special rules apply such as any time an infectious material is being transported.

Moving across state lines with hazardous materials is even more precarious.  In addition to the longer distance, there are extra logistics that have to be accounted for.  Professional lab movers understand the need to prepare beforehand to ensure everything is in compliance within each state.

Hiring lab movers makes transporting delicate, and sometimes dangerous, specimens as well as expensive equipment much less stressful.  When you know you can trust a team of specialized movers to handle the logistics you can focus on keeping your business running even while everything is being transported to the new location.
