Navigating the waters of property sales and vacation rentals on Long Beach Island doesn’t have to be a treacherous affair.  Just as the Barnegat Lighthouse steers boats away from the harmful land and rocks, this guide will help you stay clear of danger, guiding you and your loved ones to the home or vacation rental of your dreams.

Why Buy or Vacation in Long Beach Island?

Assuming you haven’t done any of your homework yet, we’ll start from beginning.  Long Beach Island is an amazing place to both live and visit.  With sandy beaches as sweet as sugar, tons of summer time activities to do like fishing, surfing, boating, sailing, and a ton of attractions, restaurants and night life, it’s no wonder that property sales and vacation rentals can border a little bit on the pricey side.  Still, when you want to visit or live in a nice area, this is to be expected.

Now, it’s not to say that the area is overpriced or too expensive, it’s just that you might want to consider checking out a wide variety of homes before you buy.  Homes can range anywhere from $100K to $10 million, so there certainly is a wide variety of options to choose from.  There are also one bedroom condos, ocean side cottages, bay area beach homes, ocean front mansions and apartments for rent or sale.  If you’ve never been to Long Beach Island, consider visiting first to get a feel for the area — chances are you’ll fall in love, just like all of the current residents did.

What are the Best Areas to Rent or Buy?

So where should you be looking?  For starters, any of the towns on the above list are a great place to start.  If you don’t know much about Long Beach Island, understand that it’s 18 miles of actual island (completely surrounded by water) so that means you can be on the bay side or the ocean side of the island.  Both are equally beautiful, but if you want to do more boating, sailing and fishing, stick to the bay side.  If you want to do more swimming in the waves, surfing or surfcasting, stick to the beautiful beaches on the ocean side of Long Beach Island.

Each section of Long Beach Island is unique.  Some residents prefer the north and south ends of the island for their pristine beauty, calm and quiet.  The world-famous Barnegat Lighthouse is located in Barnegat Light on the north end of the island.  This area is home to beautiful wildlife and offers you a more peaceful and private area for living or vacationing.

If you want to be in the middle of the activities without having to drive around all over the place, stick to the middle of Long Beach Island.  There are tons of businesses, parks, restaurants, shops, stores, entertainment, etc. located in the middle of the island.  Almost everything is within walking distance and you — and the kids if you have them — will never run out of fun stuff to do.

The southern end of the island mirrors the northern end in its quiet, secluded privacy.  There is an enormous wildlife preserve (the Edwin B. Forsythe Wild Life Preserve) located in Holgate, giving visitors and residents breathtaking views of local bird life.  Enjoy fishing, hiking and combing the beach here.
