The Growth of UK Online Spending
In the age of super-fast web connections and competitive online retail, it’s easier than ever to do all of our Christmas shopping from the comfort of our living room or on our lunch break at work. The days of facing the long queues out in the cold high street are long gone – and things are continuing to change at a pace.
Research has shown that around 20 per cent of all online sales are now made via a mobile device. It’s pretty unsurprising when you think about it, as retailers come up with sites specially optimised for use with smartphones and tablets. But is all this likely to harm the high street? In 2011, it’s estimated around 14 stores on averaged closed down every day. Here’s a look at just how online spending is changing the market.
