If you are buying a house, it is very unlikely that you have enough cash to straight up pay for it. My wife and I attempted to buy a house a few years ago. We did not know the details of the process of finding and buying a house. We thought it was like house hunters where we look at three houses and then choose the best one. hehe.
After contacting a real estate agent we went out to look for a house. The agent asked us what price range we were thinking and we said we weren’t sure. He asked how much we had been pre approved for and we said “what?”
So apparently we were suppose to have already gotten approved for a house before we even looked for one. Well I’m not sure which way is the best but we then went shopping for mortgage companies.
Where to find a good mortgage company
Our first thought was to go to our bank. They know us and trust us. So we talked to them, got some rates and were satisfied. Then I started checking online. It seems like our local bank’s rates were much higher than others so I decided to do more shopping.
It turns out there are a lot of factors to consider when finding the right mortgage company. Do you want 30 year fixed rate? Or a few years fixed then an adjustable rate? Then there are the issues of trying to find if your lender is a good one or not. If you are going to the bank in person you might be alright but you’ll likely pay higher rates. But if you are looking online then you can find great rates but are they legit companies?
Luckily Reviews.com recently published a great article that goes in-depth with how to to find the best mortgage company. When we were looking for a house I wish I would have had this resource. It would have saved us a lot of time.
If you are not familiar with reviews.com they publish great reviews ranging from the best dog food to the best car insurance. But unlike a lot of those sites out there that just publish reviews about any company that will give them some money, reviews.com actually does the leg work to find out which one really is the best and only recommends those.
